ABOUT US

Welcome to Extreme Dance Challenge!

We are proud to be an Alberta-based, family-run dance competition who pride ourselves in offering events for youth across central Alberta that give a unique, organized, fun, encouraging and supportive environment to perform, learn and grow as dancers and individuals. We strive to put the dancers first by offering a large stage for them to perform on, full stage lighting & sound, tap mics, giveaways, cash prizes and a ton of custom awards and overall lineups for every age and level. No matter the level or age of a dancer, they will all receive the same experience and an opportunity to walk away with some great memories and awesome awards & prizes.

Thank you to everyone who attended our 2023 events in Calgary and Red Deer. We are extremely grateful and appreciative for the continued support within our Alberta dance community.

The EDC team is already starting to plan for our upcoming ninth season in 2024 and hopes to see some familiar faces from our previous seasons and looks forward to meeting new dancers, choreographers, instructors, studio owners and parents in Calgary and Red Deer.

Extreme Dance Challenge wouldn’t be what it is today without the support from all of you.

We THANK YOU for choosing EDC and joining our dance community!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Yours in Dance,

Tanis & Nick

Tanis Nicholls

Co-Owner/Director

Bio

Tanis’ dance roots began in Calgary, AB where she trained and competed for 16 years. During her training years, she also had the opportunity to travel and perform across North America and Germany. After graduating from high school, Tanis wanted to further her education and dance experiences. Tanis received a certificate in Dance, Voice and Acting from the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, BC and a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Dance/Theatre Performance from Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City, OK. She has performed professionally on stages across Canada and the United States. Tanis started her teaching career while living in the US and found a love for teaching that she never thought she would have. Over the past 20 years, Tanis has had an opportunity to work with students in both Canada and the United States and has had the privilege of watching them grow as dancers, artists and individuals. Throughout Tanis’ career, her goals have been to stay humble, driven and passionate for the art of dance, while sharing her knowledge and experience with others.  Upon moving back to Calgary, Tanis made a dream come to fruition and created Extreme Dance Challenge with the help of her family and team members. EDC is a passion of hers, and along with the EDC team, Tanis has the opportunity to share her love for dance with the Alberta dance community. EDC wouldn’t be what it is today without the support from studio owners, dance instructors, dancers and parents. THANK YOU for choosing EDC and joining our dance community!

Nick Fleehart

Co-Owner/MC

Bio

In addition to being a Co-Owner of EDC, Nick is also the MC. Nick brings his technical knowledge and social media abilities to the team. He may not have a background in dance, but spent over 12 years traveling to competitions with his wife, Tanis to watch her students perform. Nick is a lover of sports. This began at an early age with little league baseball and football and he continued on to play baseball at the college level in the United States. Nick has now become a “true Canadian” with his love for hockey. Nick enjoys seeing the returning faces at EDC each year, as well as meeting all of the new dancers, instructors and families.

SYDNEY JAMES

Backstage Coordinator/MC

Bio

Sydney joined the team in 2020, but due to Covid didn’t get to work her first EDC event until 2021. We’re thrilled to have Sydney on the team. Sydney has over 16 years of dance training in a variety of styles. She danced competitively for 10 years before moving on to train at The Young Canadians School of Performing Arts where she performed in such shows as Dave Kelly Live and The Calgary Stampede Grandstand Show. Her favorite styles of dance include theatre jazz and ballet and has completed her RAD Advanced 2 ballet examination. Sydney is currently attending the University of Calgary to obtain a Bachelor of Education and is a Rookie cheerleader during the 2023 season with the Calgary Stampeders Outriders. Sydney is so thrilled to be a part of the EDC team and cannot wait to see everyone backstage and on stage!

Brooke Ashbaugh

EDC Team Member

Bio

Brooke joined the team in 2019 and we’re so glad she did. She brings over 15 years of dance experience and a bubbly personality, along with her love for pineapples. Her favorite styles of dance are ballet and lyrical and she loves teaching little ones. Brooke can’t wait to see everyone again backstage.
